1978 Toyota Landcruiser - July 2013

It's rare that we get an import car or truck to work on, so this Landcruiser is an exception - and exceptional. It came to us in great shape already, but the owner wanted to clean it up around the edges and make it just that much better. Watch as we turn this historic 4x4 into a show stopper as well.

Overall the exterior was in good shape, with just some changes in paint needed. The engine runs good, but needs cleaning up as well. The interior floor was the worst, and needed more attention.

The floors were sanded, coated in Por-15, then repainted - along with the entire interior! The headliner was replaced, seats were recovered, and the rollbar and all brackets were powdercoated. New floor mats were also installed.

The backend received new taillights, weatherstripping around the doors, bumpers were powdercoated and the back bumper was repainted. The frontend received new signal lights, the front bumper was smoothed and repainted, the headlight surround was powdercoated in the correct color, and the winch got a new cable and hook. The door mirrors had been replaced with non-original items at some time, and extra holes existed when the original mirrors were put back in place. Those holes were welded up and the door were repainted - just like it never happened.

The biggest transformation on this restoration was the engine bay. It had 35 years of oil and grease, and looked terrible and worn. It was stripped to the bare block, repainted, and each piece was cleaned and restored to better-than-new.

The exterior was in pretty good shape, no major dents or dings, so after the doors were repainted, the rest of the outside got little touchups here and there. The roof was repainted, wheels were powdercoated, hubcaps polished, and everything just cleaned.
