1956 Pontiac Chieftan Deluxe - Nov 2016

This 1956 Pontiac Star Chief is a rare 2-door hardtop that was started by another shop about 15 years ago!  It's been passed around from owner to owner without much progress - until we got the call.  It had been disassembled, a mid-80s GM G-body front clip grafted on (better suspension, disc brakes, etc.), painted and stored.    Boxes of random parts here and there - it's going to be a puzzle putting it back together...

Here's how we got it...

The front fenders and hood were all scratched up, so they are getting new paint.  However, the rest of the body buffed and polished out great!  It has a 455 pontiac engine that was started up about 10 years ago, so we'll go through that too. A donor parts car was found and has already donated it's inner fenders and core support to replace the missing and hacked up ones on the car...

We decided to bring in another color since you can only have so much turquoise and white on a single car - the choice came from the wheels we picked - gunmetal grey metallic.  Along with the color comes a new stance - out with the 15" steelies, in with 18x8 rear and 17x7 fronts !!!  Having grey now lets us get rid of the turquoise engine and dress it up in grey and chrome...

Front inner fenders and core support were fitted and powder coated, steering column and shaft were replaced, then all was bolted together so the fenders could finally be fitted...

After months of searching for missing parts, finally buying another complete parts car, and figuring out all the special 1956-only parts, this little jewel is off and running again.  All the exterior trim was polished or chromed, matching green tint windows were installed (power of course), Vintage Air AC system, a super plush custom interior that makes the bench seats appear more like buckets and feel great, and check out that lighted hood ornament (don't see that now-a-days)!
